Rev. William Lies, C.S.C., is the Vice President for Mission Engagement and Church Affairs at the University of Notre Dame, a role he began in March of 2012. He is also a fellow of both the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. As the Vice President for Mission Engagement and Church Affairs, Father Bill assists in deepening the conversation across the academy on issues of importance to the Church. He is also the liaison for Notre Dame to the Congregation of Holy Cross, the U.S. Bishops, the USCCB and its affiliates, the Holy See, and the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem. Father Bill earned a B.A. in English with minors in French and Philosophy from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He received his M.Div. degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Pittsburgh. When he is not traveling, he lives on the Notre Dame campus with the Dawgs of Alumni Hall.
