Rev. Gary Chamberland, C.S.C., is the director of the Master of Divinity Program in the Theology Department. Father Gary was ordained a priest in 1998, and served in a variety of Holy Cross apostolates before returning to Notre Dame to serve as the Rector of Zahm Hall in January 2014. In July 2016, he became the chaplain to the Holy Cross Association, a ministry of prayer that serves a network of almost 9,000 families. Before his return to Notre Dame, he served as Director of Campus Ministry at the University of Portland and sat as a member of the Presidential Leadership Cabinet. He holds a license in canon law from the Catholic University of America and has taught canon law and theology at both Portland and Notre Dame. Previously, he has directed residence halls at both institutions, serving as Rector of Keenan Hall from 1999 to 2002. He assisted at Christ the King Parish, South Bend, from 1995 to 1999 and taught junior high school science at St. Philip Neri School in Alameda, CA after receiving his master of divinity degree at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley in 1990. Following his graduation from the University of Notre Dame in 1984 with a B.A. in American Studies, Father Gary volunteered as a Holy Cross Associate in Portland, OR.
