Responding to the United States Postal Service’s announcement Tuesday (Sept. 20) that it will issue a stamp next year honoring the late Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., University of Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., said: “It’s fitting that the United States recognizes Father Hesburgh’s contributions to our nation and the world in a medium that will literally transport his legacy to households across America and around the world.”

Rev. Joseph Corpora, C.S.C., director of university-school partnerships for the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), has received a mandate from Pope Francis to be a Missionary of Mercy.

The Missionaries are some 800 priests worldwide selected by the pope to be special confessors and “living signs” of God’s forgiveness during the Holy Year of Mercy officially proclaimed in his letter, Misericordiae Vultus (The Face of Mercy), last year.

On June 21, 1964, Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., attended a civil rights march where he was photographed standing hand in hand with Martin Luther King, Jr.  In 2016, Rev. Paul Doyle, C.S.C., as well as others from the University of Notre Dame community, reflected on this important moment, memorialized in a community mosaic.

Rev. Matthew Hovde, C.S.C., Ordained a Priest

On Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, the Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend will confer the Sacrament of Holy Orders on Rev. Mr. Matthew Earle Hovde, C.S.C., and Rev. Mr. Dennis Anthony Strach II, C.S.C.

Rev. Pete McCormick, C.S.C., appointed to direct campus ministry at Notre Dame

Rev. Pete McCormick, C.S.C., associate director of campus ministry, has been appointed director of the University of Notre Dame’s Office of Campus Ministry, effective Feb 1.

As director of Campus Ministry within the Division of Student Affairs, Father McCormick will oversee a staff of some 30 clerical, religious and lay ministers tending to the spiritual needs of all Notre Dame students. He will replace Rev. James B. King, C.S.C., who has served as director since April 2012, and who will continue as religious superior of Holy Cross priests and brothers at Notre Dame.
